We didn't always celebrate our heritages and diversity is a new concept. My father is born here in the US and so were his parents, and grandparents. However, they settled in an area in Wisconsin where there were people of Polish decent that spoke a dialect of Polish. So when my Dad when to school he knew how to speak this Polish and not English. He went to a one room school house and had to stay in from recess to get extra English lessons. To this day he can not say words with "th" and has even gone for speech therapy.
I made a Merry Christmas card using a die cut from Memory Box.

Such a cool card, Lisa Lynn! What a wonderful way to celebrate your heritage!
Love the card and so would my Polish sister-in-law who immigrated to Canada and then met my brother. It took a few years to understand her English but even through the language problem I learned to love her kindness and her great Polish cooking!

What does the sentiment say? This card is lovely. My grandfather immigrated to the U.S from Germany right before WWI. His wife died at a very young age and he sent for his mother to help raise the children. My mother spoke German because of that, I can understand most German and I often swear in German.

Your card is beautiful and that's a great story about your father when he was young. It's not easy communicating in another language - we've lived in France for almost 14 years and I still find it difficult to speak French.

That is a special story of your father! It reminds me of our removal to another area in our very small country (The Netherlands). My eldest son had an accent form the south. The children at his new school asked him: "where do you come from? Belgium?" Within 3 months his accent was gone......
